The story explores how decades of economic decline and social neglect have devastated working-class communities like Kristof’s hometown of Yamhill, Oregon. Together, Kristof and WuDunn lay out the scale of America’s “crisis of despair” — and the policy solutions they believe could restore opportunity and dignity across the country.
